A life
well lived.

Elizabeth Russell was born in Coulsdon, South of London, in May 1942 and she passed away in our apartment at the Murano Senior Living in Seattle in September 2026. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, and she was able to enjoy the final stage of her journey without pain, and with time to reflect on her long and adventurous life with travel, a happy marriage and the joy of helping raise two sons and four grandsons. She had no regrets about things she would have liked to have done, or places she would have liked to visit.

After marrying Mike in 1964 they spent a year working in London before moving to Latin America, where they spent 13 years in Venezuela and El Salvador. In 1978 they moved to the US where they lived in DC and Oregon before finally moving to Murano Senior Living in Seattle in 2024.

Her travels with Mike took her to more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. She worked in programs for the urban poor in Venezuela and El Salvador before qualifying as a professional interpreter. On moving to the US she completed her Masters and Doctorate in Sociology at the University of Maryland, and worked with several social research agencies including the World Bank.

One of her greatest pleasures came from the many loving relationships with family and friends both growing up in England and in the many places she lived. The last 3 years of her life were spent at the Murano Senior Living residence in Seattle, which was a very welcoming environment. She particularly valued her time working with the Library Committee and the Art Group where she made many close friends, and where she was proud to have helped strengthen these two popular parts of Murano life.

Quilting and fiber arts were among her passions, and she had fond memories of the different fiber arts groups with whom she worked in Oregon. She took great pleasure from the fact that she was invited by Murano to present her fiber art creations in a joint art show with Mike entitled "Journeys: Reflections from a life of travel”. The 3 month show ended one week before she passed.
